I bet I know who you are talking about. They are in there all of the time.

Re: People these days

Think they own the place apparently - become "fixtures."
I heard the grandmother complain about me to the other employees but that didn't get her the results she was looking for. We were offered more drinks, dessert, etc.

If the mom had said at least once "please come sit down - don't bother other people while they're eating" or something of that sort it wouldn't have been that bad. At least try to teach your kids how to act.

With the extreme reaction I got, I have to wonder if that wasn't the first time someone has said something to them about the kid's behavior.
The first words out of Grandma's mouth was to her daughter - she pointed at her and said "not a word do NOT say a word you just SIT there."
Makes me think it's happened before.
You'll shoot your eye out.

Re: People these days

I have three kids of my own and we never let them up to "play" in a restaurant or any other public place. We teach our kids to respect others. Now that does not mean that they are always good in public but if their little behinds know what is good for them they better be good.

[/ QUOTE ] And that's what she was doing - just letting him treat the place like it was his personal playground.

I went to the movies with a friend and her 2 year old this past Friday.

When the 2 year old got antsy and wanted to fidget with other things her mother set her straight and said "we either sit on our bottoms and watch the movie or we go home." Now my friend did miss parts of the movie because she was dealing with the child - but she understands that having kids means not always getting to do what you want.

A 2 year old isn't too young to be taught how to act in public. No they won't be perfect and they will continue to act up but that's what the teaching process is about.

Its the simple fact of making an attempt to change the childs behavior instead of having ostrich syndrome.

Right. If a child is never told what is appropriate behavior he/she will never know.
